Biography
Peter Kononykhin was born in 1912 in the village of Bolshaya Gribanovka (now - the village of Gribanovsky, Voronezh region ). After elementary school, he worked on a collective farm. In August 1941 Kononykhin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By February 1945, Sergeant Petr Kononykhin commanded a platoon of the 696th Infantry Regiment of the 383rd Infantry Division of the 33rd Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the battles in Germany [1] .
On February 5, 1945, Kononykhin was one of the first to cross the Oder in the vicinity of the city of Fürstenburg (now within the Eisenhüttenstadt ), seized positions on its western shore, and repelled three German counterattacks, facilitating the successful crossing of the main parts of the regiment [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, Petr Kononykhin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Kononykhin was demobilized. He lived and worked in Krasnodar . He died on November 18, 1960 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and Glory of the 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Kononykhin named street in Gribanovsky [1] .
