Togo is a multilingual country with 39 languages spoken. Of these, the official language is French. Two of the most widely spoken indigenous languages in 1975 were officially designated as national languages: Kabiye and Ewe .
Among Togo's other languages, Mina (a dialect of Eva-speakers in the city of Lome ) serves as the working language in the south of Mobaa County, the theme language (also called kotokoli ) and Fula . Most of the languages of the indigenous peoples of the country can be divided into two groups: the languages of the Gur in the north, the languages of the kwa in the south.
Two official languages are used in the regions: the Ewe in the south of the city of Lome to the city of Blitt , and the Kabe in the north.
According to the Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France (“General Delegation for the French Language and Languages of France”), 30% of the population is practically fluent in French, 37% according to the French Minister for Foreign Affairs of France in 2007.
