Features

ω Snake is a yellow giant 5.21 visible magnitude; it can be observed with the naked eye . For the first time in astronomical literature, it is mentioned in the atlas of Uranometry , published by Johann Bayer in 1603 . The mass of the star is equal to 2.17 masses of the Sun , and in size it exceeds 12 times more than our daylight. [1] The surface temperature of the star is about 4770 Kelvin . The luminosity ω of the Snake exceeds solar by 70.8 times.

Planet System

In 2013, the Japanese group of astronomers working with the HIDES spectrograph announced [1] the discovery of the planet ω Snakes b in the system. It is a gas giant , surpassing 1.7 times the mass of Jupiter . The orbit of the planet is located at a distance of 1.1 AU from the parent star. A year on it lasts about 277 days. The discovery was made by Doppler spectroscopy .
