History
The Copper Center was formed as a food supply center for prospectors and travelers in the Copper River Basin. In 1901, a telegraph station and a post office were built, and the next year a hotel and a roadside snack bar were founded. By 1910, more than 50 houses were built in the vicinity by American settlers.
Geography
It is located on the west bank of the Copper River, at the place where it receives the Klutin tributary, 25 km southeast of Glennallen and 160 km north of the city of Valdez . The area of the city is 35.6 km², of which 35.6 km² is land and 0 km² is open water.

Population
According to the 2000 census, the population of the statistically isolated area was 362 people [3] . Racial Composition: Native Americans - 46.69%; white - 48.07%; African Americans - 0.28%; and representatives of two or more races - 4.97%. The proportion of people of Hispanic origin of any race is 0.83%.
Of the 132 households, 40.2% raised children under the age of 18, 37.1% were married couples living together, in 19.7% of the families women lived without husbands, 33.3% did not have a family. 28.8% of the total number of families at the time of the census lived independently, while 7.6% were single elderly people aged 65 years and older. On average, 2.74 people are households, and the average family size is 3.39 people.
The proportion of people under the age of 18 is 38.7%; persons from 18 to 24 years old - 7.2%; persons from 25 to 44 years old - 22.7%; persons from 45 to 64 years old - 23.2% and persons over 65 years old - 8.3%. The average age of the population is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 106.9 males; for every 100 females age 18 and over, 109.4 males.
The average income on a joint venture is $ 32,188; the average household income is $ 42,500. The average per capita income is $ 15,152. About 18.5% of families and 18.8% of the population live below the poverty line, including 23.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.9% persons over 65 years old.
Education
The Kenny Lake School, which is part of the Copper River School District, is located in a statistically isolated area.
