Early career

Howison began his career with Mosgale AFC, while attending Otag High School for Boys for two years, and later in 2010 he moved to Lincoln to play at the Asia-Pacific Football Academy [2] [3] . He was spotted by football scout Graham McMann - a former coach of the Burnley youth team - during a game as part of the island tournament under 14 in Timaru [4] . McMann continued to track his progress at the academy for two years (where he continued to work as a scout) [5] . McMann contacted the management of Burnley, who agreed to give Howison a week to watch in April 2011 [5] . He made an instant impression on the club’s coaching staff, scoring two goals in a sparring match against Carlisle United [5] .

UK

After successfully completing the show, Howison signed a two-year junior contract with Burnley in July 2011. [6] He scored his first goal for the youth team in November 2011, his team won a landslide victory with a score of 6: 1 over rivals from Preston North End [7] . Houyson became better known after scoring two goals in the quarter finals of the Youth Cup in England against Fulham in February 2012, which helped the burgundy get into the semifinals for the first time since 1978 [8] . His appearances at the ICA in March 2012 attracted the attention of Newcastle United and Liverpool [9] . On March 29, 2012, Houison signed a professional contract with Burnley for two and a half years, so he will stay in the club until June 2014. He made his debut three days later, the match ended in a 3-1 loss to Birmingham City in the Football League Championship, and he replaced Josh McQuoyd in the 84th minute [12] . However, he became the youngest New Zealander in the football league at the age of 17 years and 103 days, breaking the previous record for 22 days, set by Chris Wood of West Bromwich Albion in April 2009 [5] .
