Arctic Village ( English: Arctic Village , Gwitchin : Vashrąįį K'ǫǫ [2] ) is a statistically isolated area in the census area of Yukon-Koyukuk , Alaska , USA .

History
According to archaeological research, the first people settled in the Arctic Village around 4,500 BC. e. Around the year 500 e. Atabasque tribes speaking the Gwitchi language came to these lands, building temporary camps here for seasonal hunting and fishing. Around 1900, a permanent settlement of the Arctic Village appeared [3] .
Geography
Located in the upper East of Shandalar, a tributary of the Shandalar River, about 100 miles north of the city of Fort Yukon [3] . The area of the Arctic Village is 180.9 km², of which 159.8 km² is land and 21.0 km² (11.63%) is open water [3] [4] .
Population
According to the 2000 census, the population of the city was 152 people [5] . Racial composition: Native Americans - 86.18%; white - 7.89%; representatives of two or more races - 5.92%. The proportion of people under the age of 18 years is 41.4%; persons over 65 years old - 2.0%. The average age of the population is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 114.1 males; for every 100 females age 18 and over, 128.2 males.
Of the 52 households, 44.2% raised children under the age of 18 years, 25.0% were couples living together, women lived without husbands in 21.2% of families, and 40.4% did not have a family. 32.7% of the total number of families at the time of the census lived independently, while 3.8% were single elderly people aged 65 years and older. On average, 2.92 people are households, and the average family size is 3.58 people.
Average income on a joint venture - $ 20,250; the average household income is $ 19,000. The average male income is $ 21,875, the women $ 10,000. The average per capita income is $ 10,761. About 30.8% of families and 46.3% of the population live below the poverty line, including 53.1 % of people under 18 years old and 0% of people over 65 years old.
