DescriptionBody length from 47 to 59 mm, forearm length from 35 to 40 mm, foot length from 9 to 12 mm, ear length from 14 to 18 mm, weight up to 15 g.
The coat is short and smooth. The back is brown to gray, the belly is slightly lighter. Leather membrane in black. The muzzle is short and wide. The nose is well developed, has a leaf-shaped shape. There are two light streaks on both sides of the muzzle. Ears are medium-sized, rounded, light brown with yellow or white trim. The tail is missing.
Karyotype 2n = 30 (females) 31 (males), FN = 56.
DistributionThe species range covers the territory of the following countries: Belize , Brazil , Colombia , Costa Rica , Ecuador , El Salvador , Guatemala , Guyana , Honduras , Mexico , Nicaragua , Panama , Peru , Venezuela . It lives in low-lying evergreen and deciduous forests at an altitude of up to 1200 meters above sea level . It occurs in secondary forests, and disturbed habitats.
LifestyleFertile, but sometimes consume pollen and insects. Lead a nocturnal lifestyle. During the day they take shelter under the leaves of banana and palm trees, as well as in caves and tunnels. Peaks of cubs occur in April and September.
