Alexei Matyushev was born on March 21, 1916 in the village of Ovsishche (now the Senno district of the Vitebsk region of Belarus ). He graduated from seven classes of the school and feldsher school. In 1937, Matyushev was called up to serve in the troops of the NKVD of the USSR. In 1938, he graduated from the Kharkov Military School of the NKVD of the USSR. From the same year - in stock. In 1941, Matyushev was again called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in battles on the Western and Kalinin fronts, was wounded three times. He participated in the battle of Smolensk in 1941, the battle for Moscow , the battles near Rzhev . In 1942, Matyushev graduated from the Frunze Military Academy at an accelerated rate, after which he fought as chief of staff of the 940th Infantry Regiment of the 262th Infantry Division of the 43rd Army of the Kalinin Front. He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Smolensk region [1] .

On September 17, 1943, Matyushev unexpectedly attacked the enemy with the forces of two companies and liberated the village of Voroby in the Demidov region , destroying about 200 enemy soldiers and officers with minimal losses. In battle, Matyushev was wounded, but continued to fight. On September 18, he led a bypass group successfully completed a combat mission in the area of ​​the village of Grigoryevskoye, only that day destroying about 80 enemy soldiers and officers. On September 19, Matyushev’s group, while continuing to raid the enemy’s rear, near the village of Dmitraki attacked the positions of a superior enemy, destroying about 100 soldiers and officers, capturing 27 machine guns , 4 mortars , 12 wagons, 3 radio stations and a large amount of weapons. In that battle, only 2 people were killed in the entire squad, one of them was Matyushev himself. Initially, he was buried in a cemetery in the village of Dubna in the Tymkinsk district of the Smolensk region, but was subsequently reburied in the city of Demidov [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 4, 1944, for “fulfilling the combat missions of the command and showing courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders,” Major Alexei Matyushev was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Banner , the medal "For Military Merit" [1] .

In honor of Matyushev, a school in his homeland is named [1] .
