The women's handball tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held from August 9 to 23 at the Beijing Sports Palace of the Olympic Sports Complex and the Beijing State Sports Palace . The tournament was attended by 12 teams in two groups. Four of the best teams went into the playoffs; those who did not leave the group played places in the consolation tournament.
The victory was won by the Norwegian team, which for a long time won the European Championships, but failed at the World Championships and the Olympics. Silver medal was received by the Russian team, which won the last few world championships and on the way to the finals beat the favorite of the tournament - the French team. The team of South Korea won bronze medals.
