Moritz Ferdinand Schmalz (June 18, 1785, Stolpen - February 15, 1860, Hamburg ) is a German Protestant preacher and religious writer.

He studied theology in Leipzig and Wittenberg , in 1812 he continued his study in Wittenberg under the leadership of Christian Karl Stubel. From 1812 to 1814 he was a priest in Stadt-Webel, from 1814 to 1816 - in Vienna . In 1819 he was appointed pastor at the Neystadt church near Dresden , where he became a popular preacher primarily for his anti-Catholic sermons. In 1826 he founded a house for raising poor children in Neustadt. In 1830 he became a doctor of theology, in 1833 transferred to the post of senior pastor at the Church of St. Jacob in Hamburg , in 1855 he headed this church.
In addition to various collections of his own excellent sermons, Schmalz also published valuable pedagogical work: Erholungsstunden für Jünglinge und Jungfrauen (X editions in Leipzig, 1856).
