CD1 (short for Cluster D differentiation / C luster of D ifferentiation 1 ) is a family of transmembrane glycoproteins of type I of the superfamily of immunoglobulins expressed on the surface of epithelial cells (intestines), B-lymphocytes, myeloid dendritic cells, cortical thymocytes, Lang cells. They play a significant role in the presentation of lipid antigens. Participate in the humoral immune response of the body in the pathogenesis of cancer and autoimmune diseases. By synthesizing hydrophobic peptides, CD1 correlate the recognition of lipid and glycolipid antigens by T-lymphocytes. T lymphocytes (T-killers) recognize the antigen with the CD1 ligand.
Compared to other proteins of the main histocompatibility complex, CD1 has minimal allelic diversity as a result of single atypical polymorphisms (SNPs).
