Alexander Sergeyevich Nikiforov ( May 4, 1926 - May 29, 1991 ) - Soviet scientist in the field of radiochemistry, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences , doctor of technical sciences , Hero of Socialist Labor ( 1974 ), laureate of the Lenin Prize ( 1962 ), Stalin Prize and State Prize of the USSR ( 1975 ) .

Biography
He was born on May 4, 1926 in the village of Afonasovo (now in the Krasnogorsk rural settlement , Kalininsky district of the Tver region) in a peasant family.
He entered the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys , graduated in 1948 .
After graduation, he was sent to the Ozyorsk Combine No. 817 . Since March 1948, he began work in workshop No. 1 of factory No. 20 (the factory was engaged in the production of weapons-grade plutonium ).
He participated in the development and manufacture of plutonium charge for the first Soviet atomic bomb RDS-1 , since 1952 he participated in the creation of a new production of tritium to increase the production of thermonuclear munitions.
In 1955, Nikiforov became director of the radioisotope production plant.
Since 1960 he was the deputy chief engineer, since 1969 - the chief engineer of the plant number 817 (later the Mayak plant).
While working at the plant, Nikiforov paid attention to the technical development and establishment of the production of chemical regeneration of spent nuclear fuel from nuclear power plants and nuclear plant facilities, and other issues
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 26, 1971, Nikiforov was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor for great achievements in the development of the nuclear industry.
In 1974 he became deputy director, in 1984 - director of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Inorganic Materials .
He was engaged in research in the field of inorganic chemistry and technologies for the production of highly pure elements, the regeneration of spent nuclear fuel, environmental protection and many other areas.
He was elected chairman of the Interdepartmental Coordinating Council for the Processing and Disposal of Radioactive Wastes, then became chairman of the section of the scientific and technical council of the Ministry of Radiochemistry and Technology of Processing of Irradiated Materials. He became chairman of the interagency Scientific Council on Radiochemistry under the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences , a member of the Coordinating Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the study of structural materials for fusion reactors, a member of the expert council of the Higher Certification Commission of the USSR, a member of the editorial boards of the journals Atomic Energy and Radiochemistry, chairman of a specialized council for the defense of dissertations.
He lived in Moscow . He died on May 29, 1991 . He was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery .
