He took part in the wars of 1813 and 1814. In 1864, during the German-Danish war , he led the crossing of the Prussian troops on the island of Alzen. In the Austro-Prussian war of 1866, he was the commander of the Elbe army, with whom he participated in the battles at Hünerwasser , Munich and in the battle at Koenigretz .
