Biography
Pavel Konev was born on July 5, 1925 in the village of Staritsa (now the Chernoyarsky district of the Astrakhan region ). After finishing seven classes of the school he worked on a collective farm . In January 1943, Konev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1944, he graduated from the Saratov Tank School. Since November of that year - on the fronts of World War II, he commanded the tank of the 269th tank battalion, 23rd tank brigade ( 9th tank corps , 33rd army , 1st Belorussian front ). Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .
On January 20, 1945, Konev on his tank secretly in the swamps came close to the German defenses and opened fire on enemy positions, destroying the convoy, 3 artillery pieces and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers, and then captured and held until the main forces of crossing the Warta River [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945, Junior Lieutenant Pavel Konev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He did not manage to receive the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal , since on March 5, 1945 he died in battle. He was buried in the city of Stargard [1] .
