Khetag ( Osset. Khetæg ) is a fairly popular name in Ossetia . Although men are called by this name, based on the prevailing legend of the miraculous salvation of Khetag , the hero of the eponymous poem Kost Khetagurov , from the enemies pursuing him, there is no explanation about the origin of this name [1] . To date, there is only one version of the origin of this name in connection with its ethnicity [2] .

The name Khetag (Khet-ag), according to the rule of the Ossetian language, where “ag” is the suffix of ethnonyms (for example, a couple of words “Rus - Russian” in Ossetian is written as “Uyrys - uyrys-ag”), is consistent with the version of belonging to the Hittam [3] .
