Hronov ( czech. Hronov ) is a city in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic , located near the Czech-Polish border . Geographically, the city is located at the junction of the Broumov Upland and the Podorlitsky Ridge at the confluence of the Zbechnitsky stream into the Metuya River . Gronov is primarily known for the annual theater festival Jirasków Hronov , named after the city’s famous Czech writer Alois Jirasek .

Parts of the city of Gronov
The following settlements are part of the Hronov Municipality : the town of Hronov itself and the villages of Mala Chermna , Rokitnik , Velki Dřević , Zhabokrki and Zbechnik .
In March 2010, in the villages of Velki-Dřević and Rokytnik, a referendum was held to withdraw from the municipality of Gronov, but in both villages less than 50% of the inhabitants spoke out and both villages remained in Gronov.
History
The first written mention of Gronov refers to the year 1359 . The city was founded by the Knight of Hron from Nachod from the Nachertitz family, who settled on the instructions of King Václav I of the Metuya River to the north of the city of Stare Mesto nad Metuji . In the document of 1415, Hronov was first recorded as a small city, which did not have independent legal status and was part of the Nakhodka panti .
In 1850, Hronov became an independent city.

- In 1901 , the strongest earthquake in the Czech Republic, with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale , was recorded near Gronov.
- Alois Yirask met with President Tomasz G. Masaryk at the Gronov Pivovarsky pond.
- In the park Gronova, near the statue of Alois Jirasek, beats a mineral spring called Prdlavka . Source water is used for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes.
- North-west of Gronov, in the forest of Maternity, is Skalakov spring ( Skalakova student ), the water from which was used as medicine during the cholera epidemic of 1832 .
