Biography

Sergei Komarov was born on June 12, 1922 in the village of Tokarevo [1] . He graduated from high school, two courses of industrial college and flying club. In 1940, Komarov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In September 1941, he graduated from the Bataisk military aviation school of pilots , in February 1943 - Konotop military aviation school of pilots. Since June 1943 - on the fronts of World War II [2] .

By February 1945, Lieutenant Sergei Komarov was a pilot of the 16th separate long-range reconnaissance aviation regiment of the 16th Air Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . By that time, he had made 237 sorties to aerial reconnaissance and aerial photography of enemy defensive and military targets, taking a total of about 7 thousand square kilometers of enemy territory [2] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Lieutenant Sergey Komarov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " Under the number 7016 [2] .

After the war, Komarov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1955, he graduated from the Air Force Academy . In 1975, with the rank of Colonel Komarov, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Kiev , was in charge of the sector of excellence department of the Ministry of Public Utilities of the Ukrainian SSR. He died on April 11, 1996 [2] .

He was also awarded three orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Red Star , "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" 3rd degree, a number of medals [2] .
