Youth

Fred Brathwaite was born in a suburb of Ottawa Nepin . His parents emigrated to Canada from Barbados in 1964.

Game career

At the beginning of his career, Fred played in the OHL for the Oshawa Generals team. In 1993, he signed a contract with the NHL Edmonton Oilers team. He played in the Oilers for three seasons in the NHL and AHL .

In 1996–98, he spent two seasons at Manitoba Mus from the IHL . In his first season at Mus, he scored a goal.

In 1998, he signed a contract with Calgary Flames , for which he played for three seasons. He took part in three world championships as part of the Canadian national team : in 1999 and 2000 . as a reserve goalkeeper (spent only one match), in 2001 - as the main goalkeeper (played in 6 of 7 matches of the Canadian national team).

In 2001, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues . In St. Louis for two seasons he acted as a reserve goalkeeper. In 2003 he moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets .

Due to a lockout in the NHL in the 2004/05 season, Brathwaite played in the Russian Super League for Kazan “ Ak Bars ”. He remained in Russia for two seasons, in 2006 he returned to North America to play in the AHL for the Chicago Wolves . In December 2007, after spending one and a half seasons for Wolves, he signed a contract with Omsk Avangard [1] . At the end of the 2007/08 season, the contract was not renewed. The next four seasons, Brathwaite spent in the club " Adler Mannheim " from the German hockey league DEL . At the end of the 2011/12 season, he decided to end his career.
