Construction

The line began to be built back in the 20th century. Its main task was to solve the transport problems of the large "sleeping" district of Budapest, Kelenföld, located in the southwestern part of the Hungarian capital. The line was designed to connect it with the city center and other metro lines.

The construction of the line went with great difficulties and was regularly interrupted due to lack of funding. The commissioning of the first section was originally planned for 2003 , then the terms were repeatedly shifted. The opening took place on March 28, 2014 [2] . The construction of the first section of the fourth line cost 366 billion forints (~ 1.2 billion euros) [3] .

Development Plans

It is planned to build a second section of 4 stations from Keleti Payaudvar to Bosnyak Ter . It is assumed that it will be commissioned in 2017 , but the implementation of the project is in doubt, both for financial reasons and because of criticism of the whole concept. [3] Further development of the line is still in the preliminary design stage, it is assumed that after the second section is commissioned, the line will be extended to the border of the city in the southwest to the Madarhed station.
