Mazelli, Francesco

In 1949 he graduated from the Experimental Film Center . He began his career in cinema as an assistant director in several feature and documentary films by Luigi Chiarini and Michelangelo Antonioni . From 1949 to 1955 he directed twelve documentaries on social issues and gained recognition as one of the best documentaries in Italy. He became close to Cesare Zavattini , in 1953 he shot an episode in his film “ Love in the City ” (Amore in città). He made his debut in feature films in 1955, having shot The Runaways, the film was distinguished by its anti-fascist and anti-war orientation and received the prize of the Venice Film Festival. In 1960, he made the film "Crown Princes" about the life of provincial bourgeois youth, devoid of spiritual interests. In 1963, he filmed Alberto Moravia's novel Indifferent (Gli indifferenti). In 1974 he shot the film “Suspect” (Sospetto) about the struggle of the Turin communists against fascism in the 1930s. In 1979, starred as an actor in the film " Terrace " by Ettore Skola . He participated in the filming of the documentary " Farewell to Enrico Burlinguer ."
