Biography
Peter Kolodyazhniy was born on July 2, 1921 in the village of Verkhnyaya Zima (now Ziminsky district of the Irkutsk region ). In 1930 he moved to the Primorsky Territory , and in 1937 - to Tomsk . After graduating from high school, he worked on an expedition. In April 1942, Kolodyazhny was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since September of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Voronezh , Stepnoy and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. Participated in the battles of Stalingrad and the Kursk . By September 1943, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Kolodyazhny commanded the detachment of the 104th separate battalion of the 5th Engineer-Sapper Brigade of the 57th Army of the Steppe Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 26, 1943, Kolodyazhny proceeded to ferry Soviet soldiers and commanders to the western bank of the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Soshinovka, Verkhnedneprovsky District, Dnepropetrovsk Region, Ukrainian SSR . For the next four days Kolodyazhny pulled the enemy’s attention away from the crossing, taking on enemy fire [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944 for "exemplary performance of the combat mission of the command in the fight against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism", Senior Sergeant Pyotr Kolodyazhny was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " Under the number 3223 [1] .
After the war, Kolodyazhny was demobilized. In 1947, he was re-drafted into the Soviet Army. In 1951, he graduated with honors from the Military Engineering Academy. In 1972, with the rank of Colonel Kolodyazhny, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in the city of Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region . He died on December 15, 2005, was buried in Krasnogorsk [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
