Biography

Born January 31, 1784 in Mitau. The son of Baron A.I. Kridener from his marriage to Barbara-Julia von Fitingof , cousin of L.K. Kridener .

From 1793 to 1797 he was brought up by the abbots Raymond and Rebel. Under the influence of his father and his friend - Jean-Pierre-Frederic Ansillon , secretary of the Berlin Academy and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Prussia, - Paul began to study law and the history of diplomacy at the University of Leipzig .

After the death of his father, who was the ambassador in Berlin , the new ambassador of Russia to Prussia, M. M. Alopeus, appointed Kriedener secretary of the embassy (1802-1805). He led a dissolute life, as a result of a love adventure, he was forced to fight a duel, where he killed his opponent. Because of this, he left the service and fled to Dresden , and then to Russia.

In June 1805 he was appointed adviser (attache) to the Chancellery of Foreign Affairs in St. Petersburg . In 1807 he was seconded to the embassy in Paris. Arrested by order of Napoleon in Strasbourg, Kridener was placed July 15, 1813 in the fortress of Oxon, from where he fled on December 5 of the same year.

Then he served in Bern, first as a secretary of the mission (1815-1816), and then as charge d'affaires (1816-1826). In 1827, Kridener was appointed envoy to Washington . U.S. Ambassador to Russia G. Middleton wrote to his boss, Secretary of State G. Clay on September 23, 1827 :

“Mr. Kridener served in the Russian mission in Berlin and Paris, then replaced Count Kapodistrias at his post in Switzerland. Baron de Cridener has the deepest knowledge in the political projects of our time and liberal views on many problems. He is a very observant person and it is worth listening to his opinion. Since he is a friend of Kapodistrias, he can devote you to all the details related to Greece. I hope that you will help him get to know the most prominent people in our country. ”

On October 29, 1827, Creender on the ship "France" from Le Havre went to his destination. On December 20 of the same year, he presented his credentials to US President D.K. Adams . Kridener contributed to the intensification of shipping between the two countries. During the Russo-Turkish war of 1828-1829, thanks to his efforts, US ships entered the Russian ports of the Black Sea . He held the post of envoy to the United States until 1837 .

In the spring of 1837, Pavel Kridener was appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Switzerland. He died in Bern on January 29, 1858 . The Geneva Journal on February 14, 1858, was published by an obituary:

“... In politics, Mr. Kruedener always adhered to moderation, devoid of vanity, and we believe that Switzerland owes him, just as Russia, in spite of all difficulties, the maintenance of good relations between the two countries, which his diplomatic colleagues from other countries".
