History

The museum was opened in 1986 in accordance with the order of the General Director of Uralvagonzavod V.K. Sotnikov. The opening of the museum was timed to coincide with the half-century anniversary of the enterprise. At that time, the museum was open only to specialists of the plant and was inaccessible to other citizens. In 1988 , the museum building was in the department of the trade department of the enterprise and was turned into a finished goods warehouse. The museum exposition was still preserved.

The building was returned to the museum in 1997 . Here, for the first time, organized excursions began to be held. In 2006 , a new opening of the museum took place, which was withdrawn from the enterprise and became available for visiting by everyone. This event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the founding of Uralvagonzavod. The opening was attended by the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Eduard Rossel and the Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhotursky Vincent [2] . Among the first sightseers were front and rear veterans, government officials and clergy.

Exposition

The museum exposition has more than a thousand exhibits. These include components and parts of military vehicles, surveillance devices, machine tools and tools, drawings and sketches, including those belonging to the Kharkov Steam Locomotive Plant, which was evacuated to Nizhny Tagil in 1941 .

The display shows the awards of the Uralvagonzavod from the Order of Lenin of 1935 to the Order of the October Revolution of 1986 , paintings with scenes dedicated to the activities of the Uralvagonzavod during the Great Patriotic War (for example, “Sending a tank train to the front”)

The museum’s decoration is a popular exposition of samples of serial and experimental armored vehicles produced at the Uralvagonzavod from the time of World War II to the present, including OT-34 , T-54 , “ Object 167 ”, BREM-1 and others. Finishes the exposition T-90 C tank. A number of tanks are prepared so that visitors can sit inside them. Near each tank there is a plate in Russian and English languages telling about their tactical and technical characteristics.

The fate of individual tanks on display is interesting. The OT-34 flamethrower tank at the end of 1942 was sunk by a crew in a lake near Moscow during a training march and abandoned after unsuccessful attempts to pull it out of viscous silt. It was not possible to raise it either in the spring of 1943 , or in the 1950s . when laying the Moscow ring road . Only in 1999 the tank was pulled out using modern technology, after which it was actually disassembled and reassembled, repairing many parts and replacing the engine and transmission. Now this tank during the Victory Day and the International Exhibitions of equipment and weapons in Nizhny Tagil leads the parade of technology. The experimental " Object 140 " and " Object 167 " since the 1960s . were in the Historical Museum of Arms and Armored Equipment in Kubinka , although not in the main exposition, then were used as targets for testing anti-tank weapons, and in 2006 were donated to the Nizhny Tagil Museum by the head of the Main Armored Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Russia V. A. Polonsky. The T-90 C tank in 1999 participated in tests of armored vehicles in the Thar desert, in 2006 it was transferred to the museum.
