Agustin Codassi ( Spanish: Agustín Codazzi ) is a city and municipality in northeast Colombia , in the territory of the Cesar department.

Content
History
Agustin-Kodassi was allocated to a separate municipality according to the decree of the government of the department of Magdalen of February 25, 1958 . The city got its name from the Italian geographer , explorer of Colombia and Venezuela, Agostino Codazzi .
Geographical position
The city is located in the north-eastern part of the department, west of the Sierra de Perih mountain range, approximately 43 kilometers south of Valledupar , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 209 meters above sea level [1] .
The Municipality of Agustin-Codassi borders in the north with the municipality of La Paz , in the south with the municipality of Becerril , in the west with the municipality of El Paso . In the east, the administrative border of the municipality coincides with a section of the state border with Venezuela . The area of the municipality is 1739 km².
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 51,909 people [2] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 50.9% of the population of the city, women - 49.1%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 82.7% of the city’s population; blacks , mulattoes and Raisals - 10.8%; Indians - 6.5% [3] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 79.7%.
Economics
The basis of the Agustin-Kodassi economy is agricultural production , as well as coal mining . The municipality has the first biodiesel plant in Colombia.
61.1% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 32.8% are service enterprises, 4.9% are industrial enterprises, 1.2% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [3] .
