Biography
Eugene Frolovich Chekoltan was born in 1919 (1917) in Kiev. According to some reports, he grew up in an orphanage. According to the artist himself, his native aunt Sofia Roznatovskaya-Vinnikova raised him. Creative work began in 1938 at the Kiev Circus , where he took part in the issue " Acrobats - Eccentrics ". Chekoltan E.F. began working at the circus thanks to his childhood friend Grigory Irmovich Novak , whose friendship he carried through his whole life.
During World War II, Chekoltan worked in Murmansk and Saratov , in the front-line brigade from the Central House of the Red Army. During trips to the front, as part of the front-line brigades, he was repeatedly surrounded, from which he went out together with regular units of the Red Army with arms in hand. Was injured. He was awarded orders and medals.
After the war, Chekoltan E.F. began to perform in the genre of clowning. In the period of the 50-60s. Chekoltan E. F. works in tandem with the artist Zonov. As part of circus groups went on tour in Iran, Finland, Hungary, France and other countries. He took part in joint performances with such masters of circus art as the Pencil, Igor Kio, Yuri Nikulin, the Shirman brothers. For a long time he worked as a member of a gypsy circus group - Ame Roma.
Since 1972, he has been working as a director of the Directorate of Ukrainian groups “Circus on the Stage”, and since 1974, as the chief director. Chekoltan E. F. staged many programs and numbers in various genres. But the greatest success was brought to the director by the preparation of clown ensembles. Among his students are such famous clowns as A. Dubinin, G. Kartukov , I. Polysaev. After retiring, he taught at the Kiev Circus Variety School.
In 1977, by a decree of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR for services to the development of circus art and aesthetic education of workers, Chekoltan Evgeny Frolovich was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR . He died on July 20, 1982 in Kiev.
