Biography
Vitevsky Vladimir Nikolaevich was born on July 22, 1845 in the village of Podvalie of the Sengileevsky district of the Simbirsk province (now Samara Region ) in the family of a priest.
He graduated from the Simbirsk Theological College , entered the Simbirsk Theological Seminary , from which he left. He passed the exams for the gymnasium course and entered the faculty of history and philology at Kazan University in 1866, and graduated in 1870.
In the years 1870-1874. taught Russian language, history and geography in two educational institutions of the city of Uralsk - in the Ural military gymnasium and a female school of the 1st category.
In the years 1874-1901. worked in Kazan as a teacher in a Russian-foreign teacher’s seminary and until 1897 also in a female Mariinsky gymnasium.
Scientific activity
V.N. Vitevsky published over 100 articles, essays and books. Part of the scientific works are devoted to the study of the history of the Orenburg Territory, the Orenburg and Ural Cossack troops.
His 5-volume work “I. I. Neplyuev and the Orenburg Territory in its former composition until 1758. " It widely shows the process of Russian colonization of the region; the history of the Orenburg expedition , the construction of the Orenburg defensive line, Bashkir uprisings in 1735-1740. and in 1755-1756. ; information is given on the economic activity of the population of the region and its ethno-social composition, the development of industry and trade. The monograph provides information on the activities of I.I. Neplyuev , I.K. Kirilov , V.N. Tatishchev , V.A. Urusov , P.I. Rychkov , A.I. Tevkelev , Taymas Shaimov , Karasakal , etc.
V.N. Vitevsky believed that Chelyabinsk was founded in 1736 "on the site of the Bashkir village of Chelyab" , that "Chelyab is a Bashkir word meaning" bucket "or" burak "in Russian," that the location of Chelyabinsk really represents a bucket-shaped hollow " [1] .
