Biography
Gillian May Armstrong was born December 18, 1950 in Melbourne ( Victoria , Australia ), becoming the middle child in the family of a real estate agent and primary school teacher.
Gillian graduated from Vermont High.
Career
In 1970, Gillian became the first female director in Australia to make the movie The Old Man and the Dog, and she has currently made 27 films. Armstrong is also a screenwriter, producer, art director and actress.
Gillian is a laureate of the Australian Film Institute (1979, 1996), London Film Critics Circle Award (1981), Brisbane International Film Festival (1995), Women in Film Crystal Awards (1995 and Australian Directors Guild (2007) , 2010).
Personal life
Gillian is married to John Pleffer. The couple has two daughters - Billy Armstrong (born 1986) and a second daughter, whose name is unknown (born 1989).
