Biography
Ivan Kolovanov was born on March 12, 1916 in the village of Chamlykskaya (now - Labinsky district of the Krasnodar Territory ). In 1936, he graduated from the Armavir Chemical-Industrial College, after which he worked for some time as the head of the planning department at a canning factory. In the same year, Kolovanov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938, he graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel. Since December 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By September 1943, Major Ivan Kolovanov commanded a battalion of the 981st Infantry Regiment of the 253rd Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 25, 1943, the Kolovanov battalion was among the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Khodorov in the Mironovsky district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and seized the bridgehead on its western shore, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in manpower and military equipment [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, Major Ivan Kolovanov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1945, Kolovanov graduated from the Shot courses. In November 1945, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in the village of Kanevskaya, Krasnodar Territory [1] . He died on June 5, 1995 [2] .
He was also awarded orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, a number of medals [1] .
