Biography

Nikolai Kolesnikov was born in 1914 in Kostroma (according to other sources, in the village of Sloboda, Kuzmishchensky rural settlement of the Kostroma district of the Kostroma region (formerly Sudislavsky district)). In 1936 - 1938 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In January 1940, Kolesnikov was re-drafted into the army. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war , after which he was again demobilized. He returned to Kostroma, where he worked in a paramilitary river guard. In June 1941, Kolesnikov was drafted into the army for the third time and sent to the front. Participated in the Battle of Kursk . By October 1943, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Kolesnikov commanded the battery of the 12th anti-tank artillery regiment of the 10th tank corps of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .

On October 1, 1943, Kolesnikov’s battery crossed the Dnieper in the area of ​​the Monastyryok farm of the Kagarlyk district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR . Only during the reflection of the first of the German counterattacks did the battery gunners destroy 5 machine guns , 3 artillery pieces and 3 vehicles with infantry. At the end of the day on October 1, Kolesnikov was seriously wounded, from whom he died the next day. He was buried in the village of Rzhishchev [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of December 24, 1943, for the "exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown", Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Kolesnikov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin [1] .
