Biography
Mikhail Kolesnikov was born on September 15, 1918 in the village of Iletskaya Zashchita (now the city of Sol-Iletsk in the Orenburg region ). Russian [1] From an early age he lived in Aktyubinsk , where he graduated from a seven-year school and worked first at a salt mine, then at a bakery. In April 1939, Kolesnikov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He was retrained for the newest T-34 tank at the Chelyabinsk Tank School. Since 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the South-West , Volkhov , Voronezh , 1st and 4th Ukrainian fronts, was wounded four times, burned three times in a tank. By September 1944, Petty Officer Mikhail Kolesnikov was a tank driver of the 2nd Tank Battalion of the 237th Tank Brigade of the 31st Tank Corps of the 1st Ukrainian Front. Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [2] .
On September 21, 1944, Kolesnikov’s crew alone attacked the Shklyary settlement occupied by the enemy, 12 kilometers southeast of the city of Dukl , destroying 3 artillery pieces and causing panic in the German garrison, forcing him to leave Shklyary. Having caught up with the retreating, the tankers defeated the convoy. On the way back, Kolesnikov’s tank was blown up by a mine. Kolesnikov was seriously wounded and was sent to the hospital, but in his part they considered him dead and posthumously presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, for “courage and courage shown during the destruction of the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky group of the enemy and in subsequent battles in the Carpathians,” Sergeant Mikhail Kolesnikov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . The Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 5808 were awarded to him only in May 1949 [2] .
In 1946, Kolesnikov was demobilized. He lived in the village of Novoalekseevka of the Khobdinsky district of the Aktobe region of the Kazakh SSR , first worked on a collective farm , then on a district farm. He died on January 31, 1974, was buried in Novoalekseevka [2] .
He was also awarded a number of medals [2] .
In honor of Kolesnikov, a street was named in Khobda , a monument was erected in Novoalekseevka [2] .
