Biography

Born in the family of a railwayman at the Selzo station of the Gosamsky volost of the Bryansk district , Orel province (now the city ​​of the same name in the Bryansk region ), where he lived until 1923 . After graduating from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1934 and graduating as a mechanical engineer, he worked as an engineer at the Leningrad Machine-Tool Plant.

In 1938 he was sent to work in the Office of the NKVD in the Leningrad Region, and then transferred to Moscow to serve in the central office of the NKVD. From July 1939 to June 1941 he was on a business trip to the United States .

Returning to Moscow , Lyagin with a group of intelligence officers sent to the city of Nikolaev to organize intelligence and sabotage work against the German invaders, led the activities of the underground anti-fascist group "Nikolaev Center" there. Lyagin’s group carried out a series of large-scale sabotage that inflicted heavy damage on manpower and equipment to the German invaders (destroyed the airfield, tank farm, warehouses, equipment of factories, sea vessels), extracted and transmitted valuable intelligence information about the enemy to the Center.

In March 1943 he was captured during the mission. During interrogations under torture, he did not extradite the members of the group. July 17, 1943 Lyagin was shot.

For exemplary fulfillment of special tasks behind enemy lines and the courage and heroism shown to him, Viktor Alexandrovich Lyagin November 5, 1944 was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

Monument to V. A. Lyagin in Nikolaev .

In the city of Nikolaev in honor of Lyagin one of the central streets of the city , the Nikolaev regional library for children and secondary school No. 26 are named. A monument is erected on his street.

In the city of Seltso, the name of V. A. Lyagin is the former Vokzalnaya street , where the future Hero was born and lived, and his name is also Seltsovskaya secondary school No. 1.

In the city of St. Petersburg, at number 7 on Pestel Street , where Lyagin lived, as well as at number 15 on Krasnogvardeisky Lane , where he worked, memorial plaques were opened.
