Redwood Creek originates in the Cascade Mountains , at an altitude of 1341 m, not far from the village of Dinsmores. The river flows through a deep wooded valley, taking in many small tributaries, including the Lax and Minor streams. About 24 km below the source, the California Highway No. 299 crosses the river. About 32 km above the mouth, the river crosses the southern boundary of the Redwood National Park, through which it flows almost further to its mouth. A little lower, Redwood Creek takes the left tributary of Bridge Creek, and then the river carries its waters through the sequoia groves. Along the banks of the river grow some of the tallest sequoia trees in the world. Near a statistically isolated area, Orik the river turns west and takes its largest tributary, the Prairie Creek River. It flows into the Pacific Ocean 48 km north of the city of Eureka and 43 km south of the city of Crescent City [3] .
The Redwood Creek Basin extends for approximately 56 km from north to south, with a length from west to east of 7 to 11 km. For most of its course, the river flows through a wide and deep (up to 460 m depth) valley, which is located between the Mad river basin (in the west) and the Klamath river basin (in the east). The height of the basin varies from more than 1500 to 0 m above sea level. There are no dams on the river, there are only a few devices for water drainage for agricultural purposes in the lower 5 km of the current. The only community in the Redwood Creek Basin is the statistically isolated area of Orik.
