St. Nicholas Cathedral is an Orthodox cathedral in Lugansk , built in 1841 in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and destroyed in 1935 , located on the Nikolaev square of the city (now Red ) [1] [2] [3] .

Content
History
The construction of St. Nicholas Cathedral began in 1840 and a year later it was completed [1] [2] [3] .
About 29 607 rubles 75 kopecks were spent on the construction of the walls of the temple, and 92 kopecks on the fence 3454 rubles 92 kopecks, there was a guard on the territory of the church [2] [3] .
In 1929, the union of militant atheists collected signatures on the closure of the temple [2] [3] .
In December 1929 the church was closed, and in 1935 the cathedral was destroyed [1] [3] .
In 1935, the Bolsheviks destroyed the church using explosives, but the foundation and basement remained intact [1] [3] .
In 1942, the former community took the premises of the former synagogue and began to work again, but in 1949 the main authority took away the place of the synagogue, but allowed Bishop Nikon to build the Church of the Transfiguration of Nicholas [2] [3] .
In 1953, a museum of technology was built near the former location of the cathedral [1] [3] .
Description
According to the preserved information from 1916, it can be established that the walls of the cathedral and the bell tower are made of stone [1] [2] [3] .
The territory of the temple was limited by a fence made of stone with iron bars [2] [3] .
The church had a throne in the name of St. Nicholas [2] [3] .
Outside the city, the church had a cemetery [2] [3] .
The land area of the cathedral was 210 hectares , including three houses of clergymen [2] [3] .
The cathedral had a church library [2] [3] .
There were church, girl and boy, bourgeois, private and Pushkin schools at the cathedral [2] [3] .
Priests
Three priests , a deacon, and three psalmists worked in the church [2] . They were paid a salary of 682 rubles 66 kopecks [2] .
The following people served in the church:
- The abbot of the church, Pavel Ivanovich Hitsunov, came to work at the age of 71. He himself is the son of a priest [2] .
- Priest Ivan Semenovich Sakhnovsky. Born in 1870 . His father is a priest [2] .
- Priest Peter Iosifovich Karnievich came to work at the age of 53 years. His father is a priest [2] .
- Deacon Grigory Dmitrievich Litvinenko came to work at the age of 32. Born into a peasant family [2] .
- Psalm writer Vasily Mikhailovich Athos. Born in 1868 [2] .
- The psalmist Nikolai Porfirievich Nemchinov came to work at the age of 47 years [2] .
- Psalmist Dmitry Semenovich Fdorov. Born in 1886 [2] .
In 1892, the head of the church worked as a merchant of the 2nd guild from Lugansk Sergey Petrovich Vasnev [2] [3] .
Economics
The land of the temple brought an income of 990 rubles [2] .
