Biography
Svet Savvich Turunov was born on September 25, 1925 in the family of shipbuilding engineer Turunov S. M.
After graduating from the Higher Naval Engineering School named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky, he was appointed junior envoy to the Obukhov plant , whose director at that time was D.F. Ustinov .
In 1951-1958 he took part in the design of ships and ships, nuclear submarines and the atomic icebreaker " Lenin " in the organizations of the shipbuilding industry of the USSR.
In 1958-1976 he worked in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the CPSU on defense industry issues.
From 1976 to 1990 - Assistant Minister of Defense of the USSR.
Army General Valentin Ivanovich Varennikov wrote in his memoirs:
Assistants to D.F. Ustinov were I.V. Illarionov and S.S. Turunov. Both worked with D.F. for many decades, were devoted to him to the marrow of bones and were well versed in technical issues, that is, in what was Ustinov's main specialty. As for military affairs ... over time, being experienced and developed people, they, of course, improved their knowledge by studying the fundamental documents. Looking ahead, I can quite confidently say that their knowledge in the military field was much higher than that of their boss.

S. Turunov took an active part in the formation and development of non-acoustic means of detecting submarines [2] .
February 3, 1984 awarded the military rank of admiral .
