Biography

Born in 1766 . In 1783 he entered the Corps of Foreign Co-religionists [2] , but did not graduate from it. From the Naval Cadet Corps released midshipman [3] . Until 1787, an officer in the Baltic , after - the Black Sea Fleet . In 1788, at the Kinburn frigate , he took part in the battle with the Turkish fleet near the island of Fidonisi , in 1790 and 1791 on the ship Joseph II - in battles in the Kerch Strait, where he was wounded in the leg, near Hajibey and Kaliakria .

In 1792 he was sent to the Danube , where he armed 25 sea Cossack boats, went with them to the Dnieper estuary , and from there to Sevastopol . In 1793, Lieutenant General M.I. Golenishchev-Kutuzov was seconded to the retinue of the Russian ambassador in the Ottoman Port with a secret mission to measure depths in the Strait of Constantinople , explore the coast and familiarize himself with the state of the Turkish fleet. At the end of the assignment he was awarded a meritorious certificate, returned to Sevastopol on a merchant ship, studying the Turkish coast on the way and making a swimming map.

In 1795 , commanding brigantine No. 1, he held a firewall at Feodosia , and in 1792 at Evpatoria . Then went on a cruise to the shores of Tavria . In 1798 , taking command of a detachment of 19 gunboats , he was sent to arm the newly built ships Simeon and Anna and St. Michael . During the Russian-French war, commanding the frigate "John Chrysostom", he moved from Sevastopol to Kozlov, the island of Tendra, from there to Nikolaev, Kherson and back to Sevastopol. In 1799, commanding the Valerian gabar, he cruised in the Mediterranean, for which he was awarded the Order of St. Anna of the II degree.

In 1801 he brought to Sevastopol the newly built frigate " Strong ", commanding which, in 1807, took part in the capture of the fortress of Anapa . For 18 sea campaigns he was awarded the Order of St. George IV degree . Since 1807, captain of the 1st rank.

In 1809 , commanding a detachment consisting of the Anapa ship, three frigates and one brig , he went out cruising between Varna and the Danube . Since 1810 - captain-commander , commanded the battleships " Poltava " and " Twelve Apostles ."

He was promoted to rear admiral in 1824 and was appointed commander of the 2nd brigade of the Black Sea Fleet, and since 1827 - the 1st brigade of the Black Sea Fleet. He went cruising to the Black Sea , holding his flag on the ship " John Chrysostom ." In 1826, "for excellent and diligent service," he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir III degree.

In 1829 he was promoted to vice admiral and appointed head of the Danube Flotilla, commanding of which he took part in the capture of Silistra [3] .

Since 1830, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet and the interim military governor of Sevastopol , since 1833, a member of the Admiralty Council . In 1831 he was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the I degree, to which the imperial crown was granted the following year. In 1837 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, II degree.

He died on June 6 ( 18 ), 1840 .
