The square came from Athens . Members of his family had Roman citizenship . In 142, he served as ordinary consul along with Lucius Cuspius Pactumei Rufin . Between 155 and 157, Square was the proconsul of Asia, where he led the trial against the holy martyr Polycarp of Smyrna .
