Biography
Peter Kozhemyakin was born on June 27, 1917 in the village of Izosimki of the Kargat volost of the Kain district of the Tomsk province (now a village in the Kargat district of the Novosibirsk region ). Early left without parents, brought up by relatives. He graduated from three classes of the school, after which he worked as a carpenter on a collective farm . In June 1941, Kozhemyakin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since November of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the battle for Moscow [1] .
By July 1944, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Kozhemyakin commanded a platoon of the 877th separate combat engineer battalion of the 36th Rifle Corps of the 31st Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Byelorussian SSR . In July 1944, the Kozhemyakin platoon successfully crossed the Berezina River near the village of Novosyolki, Borisov District of the Minsk Region , and then built bridges across the channel between the Lakes Beloe and Rybnitsa in the area of the village of the Lake Ozery of the Grodno Region of the Grodno Region and across the Neman River in the Grodno Region [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for “exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Kozhemyakin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under the number 6506 [1] .
In September 1945, Kozhemyakin was demobilized. He returned to his homeland, until 1964 he worked on a collective farm , then moved to the city of Chulym , where he worked as a railroad track monitor. In 1977 he retired. He died on October 21, 1983 [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
Memory
In honor of Kozhemyakin, the streets in Chulym [1] and Grodno [2] are named.
