Biography
Mikhail Kodochigov was born on December 24, 1924 in the village of Muravyovo (now the Shakhunsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region ). After graduating from four grades of school, he worked on a collective farm . In March 1942, Kodochigov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August 1943 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By August 1944, Junior Sergeant Mikhail Kodochigov was a gunner of the 134th artillery regiment of the 172nd Rifle Division of the 13th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . As part of his regiment, Kodochigov crossed the Vistula River in the Tarnobrzeg region. On August 22, 1944, near the village of Lukava , 10 kilometers north of Sandomierz , when the Soviet units were attacked by two German infantry regiments and 50 tanks, Kodochigov fired directly at the enemy, knocking out the Tiger tank. In that battle, he received two serious injuries, but continued to fight until he lost consciousness [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944, Junior Sergeant Mikhail Kodochigov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for number 4603 [1] .
Later he participated in the capture of Berlin and the liberation of Prague . November 18, 1945 Kodochigov died in battle with Western Ukrainian nationalist groups [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Kodochigov named school [1] .
