Assumption Cathedral (Nur Sultan)

The decision to build the Assumption Cathedral in Nur-Sultan (then Astana) was made in 2004, when Metropolitan Methodius (Nemtsov) of Astana and Almaty was appointed to the Astana and Almaty departments. In January 2006, the first stone was laid and the consecration of the foundation slab of the new cathedral took place; on Easter 2006, the first service was held. The cathedral was built with the support and direct participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

In 2007, bells were cast and brought for the cathedral. In August 2009, Metropolitan Methodius consecrated the five domes and crosses of the Assumption Cathedral.

The ceremony was attended by Akim of Astana I. N. Tasmagambetov and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan M. N. Bocharnikov .

January 17, 2010 the city cathedral was consecrated by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill . ^[one]

On June 4, 2011, at a meeting of the Synod of the Metropolitan Okrug of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan, a decision was made to erect the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan and the spiritual and cultural center named after the Equal-to-the-Apostles Saints Cyril and Methodius in Nur Sultan at the Cathedral. ^[2] In the spiritual and cultural center there are: a hotel for pilgrims, a Sunday school, the Astana Orthodox youth movement, and more.

The total area of ​​the Assumption Cathedral reaches more than 2 thousand m². The temple can accommodate up to four thousand people and is the largest in Central Asia. The height of the building is 68 m. The Cathedral has 3 chapels: the main one - in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin, the right - in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius and the left - in honor of the Archangel Michael of God and other heavenly forces ethereal. The lower temple is in honor of the new martyrs and confessors of Kazakhstan. In the upper and lower temple there are 2 confessional.

Shrines are kept in the cathedral: a particle of the relics of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called, particles of the relics of the holy saints of God from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra (Near and Far Caves), an icon of St. Alexander Svirsky with a particle of his relics, an icon of St. Mary of Egypt from the monastery of St. Gerasim of Jordan, an icon Virgin "Kazan", donated by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.

In the upper temple there is an office of the priest on duty.

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill visited the cathedral twice and presented the cathedral with two icons of the Virgin, one of which is the icon of the Virgin of Kazan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Assumption Cathedral of Nur Sultan on October 15, 2015 and presented the Cathedral with the icon of the Protection of the Holy Virgin.

There is a clothing store for the poor at the temple (Tuesday and Thursday, 14.00-17.00), an icon shop is located in the lower church. There is a youth department at the temple (Astana Orthodox youth movement).

Inside the temple is painted by artists from Palekh (Russia).

The cathedral is open every day from 8:00 to 19:00. Church services are held daily.

The territory of the cathedral is landscaped, trees are planted and fenced. The entrance to the cathedral is equipped with ramps.

The evening Divine Service begins at 17:00 (Sunday - at 16:00), the beginning of the morning Divine Service (Divine Liturgy) - at 8:40. On Sundays and holidays, the Divine Liturgy is at 7:00 and 9:20.

In the courtyard of the cathedral is a 3-story Spiritual and Cultural Center named after Saints Cyril and Methodius. In the spiritual and cultural center there are: a house church, a refectory, a kitchen, a concert hall, a Sunday school for children from 3 to 14 years old, a church and history museum (open on Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00), other rooms.

Before the Spiritual and Cultural Center there is a monument to St. Sergius of Radonezh.

In the courtyard there is a bell tower 75 meters high with a set of bells with a total weight of 20 tons. On November 26, 2016, with the blessing of Metropolitan of Astana and Kazakhstan, Alexander, a device for playing various types of ringing, the “electronic bell ringer,” was installed on the newly-built bell tower of the Assumption Cathedral.

Installation of the structure was carried out for two months. It allows you to remotely control bells using a computer that can play dozens of songs.

A set of bells was cast in the city of Yaroslavl (Russia) at Italmas LLC, the bell factory of Nikolai Shuvalov.

A set of eight bells with a total weight exceeding 11 tons was cast for the bell tower of the Assumption Church of the country. The largest bell - "Uspensky" - weighs 5 tons 200 kilograms; the second largest bell - the "holy martyr Methodius" - 3 tons 200 kilograms and the third largest - the "Rev. Sebastian" - 1600 kilograms.

The bells were made with donations from Orthodox believers in Kazakhstan. Those wishing to make a contribution to the creation of the bell set were able to do this by acquiring a special certificate in the churches of the Metropolitan District. The names of all the donors are entered in the synod of the Assumption Cathedral for eternal remembrance.

The consecration of the bells for the Assumption Cathedral took place on December 16, 2015. It was performed by the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan of Astana and Kazakhstan, Alexander.

Kuisha Dina, house 27; corner of Magzhan Zhumabaev street, Eurasia-3 shopping center district, Miras, shopping district: Vstrecha, Dream, Gulzhan, Liner, Milan, opposite the former Public Service Center.
