Biography
Wojciech Jukrowski was born in Krakow . He made his debut in 1934 in the Warsaw youth weekly “Kuźnia Młodych” ( Forge of the Young ). In 1937, he entered the Jagiellonian University , but war soon broke out and he was drafted into the army. After World War II, he graduated from the Faculty of Polonistics at the University of Wroclaw . In 1945-1947, he was an officer of the Polish Army, the commander of a special military unit at the disposal of the Katowice governor (4th independent automobile battalion). He was a correspondent in Vietnam , Laos and China , an employee of the Polish Embassy in India . Worker of the Polish Peace Committee and the Polish section of the Pen Club . Chairman of the Polish section of the International Council for the Children's Book - IBBY (1982-88). Chairman of the Society of Polish-Soviet Friendship (1983-89). Chairman of the Union of Polish Writers (1986-89). Member of the Council for the Protection of the Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom (1988-90). Member of the Sejm of the NDP of 6–9 convocations (1972–89). He was buried at the Military Ponzki Cemetery in Warsaw.
The most important works of Zhukrovsky are the novels on which the films were made: Letna ( Lotna ), Baptized by fire ( Skąpani w ogniu ), The smell of dog hair ( Zapach psiej sierści ), Stone slabs ( Kamienne tablice ) Abduction in Tyuturlistan ( Porwanie w Tiutiurlistan .
Recognition
- 1953 - State Prize of the NDP 3rd degree.
- 1955 - Order of the Banner of Labor, 2nd degree.
- 1985 - Award of the Ministry of National Defense of Poland.
- 1961 - Literary award of the Ministry of National Defense of Poland of the 2nd degree.
- 1969 - Award of the Minister of Culture and Art of Poland of the 1st degree.
- 1974 - Order of the Smile .
- 1976 - Order of Builders of People's Poland .
- 1978 - State Prize of the NDP of the 1st degree.
- 1978 - Honored Worker of Culture of Poland .
- 1987 - Order of Friendship of Peoples ( April 20, 1987 , USSR ) - for his contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation with the Soviet Union [1] .
- 1988 - Special award of the Ministry of National Defense of Poland.
- 1996 - Prize named after Vladislav Reymont .
