History
The Jewish community lived in Perm from 1850 and by 1877 it already had its own prayer house - its wooden building was located on the site of a modern synagogue.
In 1912, the Perm city government building board approved the project for the construction of a stone synagogue on the site of a wooden prayer house. Two versions of the projects have been preserved - the project of the drawing and construction bureau V. Ye. Gladkikh and the project of unknown authorship. The stone building of the synagogue was erected in 1913.
In November 1929, the synagogue was closed by the authorities. For some time the Perm Theater of Young Workers (now Perm Academic Theater-Theater ) organized in 1927 was located, then Energosbyt, other organizations, and, finally, the Perm Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences worked in its building. In 1994, the synagogue building was returned to believers. The Jewish religious society of Perm and a commercial organization renting the first floor are also located here.
Architectural Solution
The synagogue building is two-storey and elongated in depth. The facade consists of main and lower parts. The main part is made of three parts - the center and the two risalits adjoining it. Earlier, the rizalits were designed topped with domes, which were subsequently lost. In the lower eastern part of the building there is a staircase leading to the second floor. Window openings are made rectangular, and in the center of the main part they are triple. The windows themselves have simple trim. Above the prayer hall and a wide stone staircase decorated with cast-iron balusters are mounted coffered floors.
