Michael Schönberg ( date: Michael Schjønberg ; born January 19, 1967 in Esbjerg , Denmark ) is a former Danish footballer who is known for playing for the Kaiserslautern , Hannover 96 and the Danish national team . Participant in the 1998 World Cup , as well as the European Championships 1996 and 2000 .

Club career
Esberg
Schönberg was born in Esbjerg and began playing for a local club of the same name. For three seasons, he played as an attacking midfielder and scored 14 goals in 89 meetings. In 1989, Schönberg, together with teammate Jesper Christensen, went to the Munich Bavaria to watch. After watching, both returned back, but one of the team's coaches, Hans-Dieter Schmidt, a year later became the coach of the Hannover 96 club and invited Michael to the team.
Hannover 96
In the new club, he was transferred to the position of extreme defender. In 1992, Michael won his first trophy - the German Cup . In the penal finals, Borussia from Monchengladbach were beaten, Schoenberg scored the decisive goal. In the same year, Michael was ready to leave Hanover due to dissatisfaction with the terms of the contract, but after winning the trophy he was offered an improved contract and captain's armband.

International Career
In 1995, at the King Fahd Cup, Schoenberg made his debut for the Danish national team , he took part in all three matches and became its winner.
