Johanna Quaas ( German: Johanna Quaas ; nee Johanna Geisler ( German: Johanna Geißler ); born November 20, 1925 in the city of Hohenmölsen ) [1] is a German gymnast who entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest active gymnast in the world [ 1] .

Sports career
She began to engage in gymnastics at an early age, for the first time participated in competitions in 1934 [2] . After leaving school, she worked on a “compulsory social year” ( German Pflichtjahr ). In 1945 she finished work as a gymnastics coach in Stuttgart [2] . Then she moved to Weissenfels , where she began to engage in handball , because by the decision of the Control Council she was forbidden to practice gymnastics. In 1947, this ban was lifted, and Johanna Kvaas returned to gymnastics.
In 1950 she entered the Halle-Wittenberg University . Subsequently, she trained trainers at the Institut für Körpererziehung [3] .
Co-author of the textbook on gymnastics "Gerätturnen" [2] .
At that time, she studied at the HSG Wissenschaft Halle . In 1961, Johanna Kvaas trained gymnasts at the Chemie Halle Sports Club (now the Gallescher Football Club ); including Barbara Dix-Stolz ( German: Barbara Dix-Stolz ) and Christel Felgner-Wunder ( German: Christel Felgner-Wunder ), who were honored to open the 1964 Summer Olympics .
In 1982, at the age of 57, Johanna Kvaas resumed playing sports and won the GDR championship “Turn- und Sportfest der DDR” in Leipzig [2] .
After the unification of Germany, she participated in every Deutsche Turnfeste, starting in 1990 [2] .
Kvaas became very famous in 2012 after several videos were posted on YouTube with recordings of her gymnastics classes at the age of 86 (they were shot on Turnier der Meister in Cottbus ). These videos immediately became hits, gaining 3.2 and 3.4 million views [4] [5] .
Soon this attracted the attention of German and international media. Johanna Kvaas was invited to German television to participate in the show "Gottschalk Live" Thomas Gottschalk . And in China, at least 188 newspapers wrote about the 86-year-old gymnast. [6]
On September 13, 2012, Johanna Kvaas entered the Guinness Book of Records as “the oldest gymnast in the world” [1] .
Personal life
In 1963, Johanna married her colleague, gymnast coach Gerhard Quaas ( German: Gerhard Quaas ). They bring up three daughters. [7]
