Shklyarevsky, Pavel Petrovich

Pavel Petrovich Shklyarevsky (January 15 ( 27 ), 1806 - June 10 ( 22 ), 1830 ) - Russian translator and writer.

Born in the Poltava province . In 1823-1827 he studied at the 3rd gymnasium in St. Petersburg [1] . In 1827 he entered the Faculty of History and Philology of St. Petersburg University ; in 1828 he was sent to the Professor Institute at the University of Dorpat, where he soon died of consumption.

Shklyarevsky translated the works of Byron, Schiller, Goethe, Horace. His translations from ancient and new languages ​​were considered very successful and close to the original. He also wrote original poems, of which the best: “To God”, “To a friend”, “For the New Year”, “Crying of Yaroslavna”, “To comrades” and many others. A collection of his poems was published in St. Petersburg in 1832.
