Biography
Alexey Knyazev was born on March 7, 1921 in the village of Dikoporozhye (now the Lipetsk region of the Lipetsk region ). After graduating from elementary school, he worked as a carver on peat mining in the city of Volkhov, Leningrad Region . In July 1941, Knyazev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Karelian , North-Western , 2nd and 3rd Baltic, 1st Belorussian fronts. He was wounded and shell-shocked twice [1] .
By April 1945, Junior Sergeant Aleksey Knyazev was in command of the 31st Guards Separate Communications Battalion of the 23rd Guards Rifle Division of the 3rd Shock Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. He distinguished himself during the assault on Berlin . April 22, 1945 Knyazev with two comrades under enemy fire laid a line of communication. Faced with German soldiers seated in one of the houses, they took the fight. In that battle, the signalmen destroyed 58 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 31, 1945, for junior guard courage and heroism, Junior Sergeant Aleksey Knyazev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, the rank of senior sergeant Knyazev was demobilized. He graduated from ten classes of the working youth school and four courses at the Chisinau Institute of Soviet Trade, after which he worked first as the chairman of the collective farm , and then as the director of the department store. He lived in Moscow . He died on October 4, 1990, was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, the Red Star , Glory of the 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
