Maroš Shefčović ( Slovak. Maroš Šefčovič ; b. July 24, 1966 , Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) - Czechoslovak and Slovak diplomat, Slovak and European politician. Since 2010 - Vice-President of the European Commission and the European Commissioner for Inter-institutional relations and administration, in the period 2009-2010 - European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth.

Biography
He studied at the University of Economics in Bratislava (1984-1985), completed a full course of study (1985-1990) and graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a degree in International Relations. At the University of Comenius in Bratislava, he obtained scientific degrees: JUDr in Law (1990) and PhD in International and European Law (2000).
He was an adviser to the Czechoslovak Deputy Foreign Minister, became secretary and consul at the Czechoslovak Embassy in Harare ( Zimbabwe ) in 1992, and later at the Slovak Embassy in Ottawa ( Canada ). Since 1995, he has been working at the Slovak Foreign Ministry for relations with the European Union and NATO . In 1998, he became Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, then was appointed Ambassador to Tel Aviv ( Israel ).
Becomes the Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the European Union in 2004. From October 1, 2009, replaces Jan Figel as European Commissioner (from Slovakia) for education, training, culture and youth. In the second European Commission, Barroso, he holds the posts of Vice-President of the EC and European Commissioner for Inter-institutional Relations and Administration.
From November 1, 2014 - Deputy Chairman and European Commissioner for Energy at the Juncker Commission .
Since 2019 - candidate for the presidency of Slovakia [1] .
