Biography

Yakov Klochkov was born on October 20, 1905 in the village of Gorodishche (now - Soletsky district [1] [2] , Novgorod region ). He graduated from two classes of the school, after which he worked in his native village. In 1927 - 1930 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Demobilized, he settled in Leningrad , where he worked as a wrapper at the Sevkabel and Elektroapparat plants. He graduated from the rabfak at Leningrad State University. In 1935, Klochkov was re-drafted into the army. He graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By September 1943, Major Yakov Klochkov commanded the 100th separate motorized pontoon-bridge battalion of the 5th pontoon-bridge brigade of the 12th Army of the Southwestern Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [3] .

On the night of September 25-26, 1943, under enemy fire, Klochkov ensured the passage of Soviet units across the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Gubenskoye, Volnyansky District, Zaporizhia Region, Ukrainian SSR , personally driving a towing boat. During the crossings, he was wounded three times, but did not leave his post until the combat mission. Klochkov died of his wounds on September 26, 1943. He was buried in the city of Sinelnikovo, Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine [3] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 19, 1944, for “skillful command of the unit, courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper,” Major Yakov Klochkov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , World War II degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [3] .
