This is a list of sites of special scientific importance (UONZ) in Leicestershire .

Leicestershire is a non-metropolitan county located in central England as part of the East Midlands region . On the territory of Leicestershire, 76 sites of special scientific significance were allocated: 57 of them are of only special biological interest, 11 are of only geological interest, 8 are both simultaneously ^[1] .

Sites of special scientific importance are called upon to preserve the wildlife and geological heritage of the state. In total, there are more than 4000 UONZs in England, covering about 8% of the country's territory. All sites are subject to the Law. is responsible for assigning the status of a site of special scientific importance , whose experts evaluate whether this area is of particular interest because of its fauna , flora , geological, physical-geographical or geomorphological features. Natural England was established on October 1, 2006 as a result of the merger of three organizations - , and ; she received all their powers, in particular on assigning status to territories of special scientific significance ^{[2] [3] [4]} .
