Biography
He was born on November 11 ( November 23 ), 1898 in the village of Belozerye (now the Ulyanovsk Region ). He graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Kazan University . He worked as party leader on the search for iron ore deposits in the Urals .
Organizer of the Magnetic Department of the Geophysical Institute of the Ural Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences . He stood at the origins of systematic studies of the magnetic fields of iron ore deposits .
Since 1935 - Head of the experimental methodological station TsNIGRI - VSEGEI .
From 1937 he lectured at the Leningrad State Institute named after G.V. Plekhanov . Professor (1956). Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1947).
In 1945, he achieved the organization of the All-Union Institute of Exploratory Geophysics (VIRG) (now the Federal State Unitary Scientific-Production Enterprise “ Geological Exploration ”) and became its first director.
In 1951-1959 he worked at VSEGEI . From 1959 to the end of his life - Head of the Department of Geophysical Methods of Prospecting and Exploration of Deposits at the Plekhanov State Physical Institute at the Moscow State University .
He died on November 8, 1978 . He was buried in Leningrad at the Northern cemetery .
Scientific Activities
Professor A. Logachev, a talented researcher and eminent scientist, devoted his whole life to the formation and development of geophysical service in the USSR. Conducted research on the magnetic properties of rocks and ores.
The organizer and head of scientific research on the use of geophysical methods (aeromagnetic prospecting, ground magnetic prospecting, gravity prospecting, radiometry, geochemistry, logging, etc.) while searching for and prospecting for uranium deposits is the task for which the institute was created.
The author of outstanding achievements in the field of theoretical studies in the field of magnetic methods, which became the basis for modern magnetic prospecting, the development of the aeromagnetic survey method. In 1934, for the first time in the world, he designed an aeromagnetometer , a device that allows measuring the Earth’s magnetic field from an airplane.
He trained 10 doctors of science, dozens of candidates of science and many hundreds of qualified specialists of geophysical engineers. He formulated the principles of geophysics training: a mining engineer-geophysicist is the same geologist , but owning special methods of prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits. In this regard, the curriculum in the USSR provided for the fundamental training of students in geological disciplines.
Author of 6 fundamental monographs, a number of textbooks, including a reissued textbook on magnetic prospecting. [one]
Awards and prizes
- two orders of the Red Banner of Labor
- The Stalin Prize of the third degree (1947) - for the invention of the aeromagnetic and the creation of a new method of searching for iron ore deposits using aerial magnetic survey
- Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR
Memory
- Since 1995, the Federal State Unitary Research and Production Enterprise Geologorazvedka has been named after A. A. Logachev.
- The name of the scientist named research vessel "Professor Logachyov", repeatedly participated in the Polar Marine Geophysical Expeditions.
- a large submarine polymetallic field discovered in the middle ridge of the Atlantic is called “Logachev”.
Notes
- ↑ The first textbook on magnetic prospecting, prepared by A. A. Logachev in collaboration with L. D. Bersudsky, was published in 1940. In 1951, a new textbook prepared by him for university students was released — the well-known Magnetic Survey Course, which was then reprinted 4 more times (1962, 1963, 1973, 1979). The textbooks of A. A. Logachev are used not only in our country, but also abroad - they are translated into Chinese and Spanish.
