This is a list of sites of special scientific importance (UONZ) in West Yorkshire .
West Yorkshire is a ceremonial metropolitan county in the north of England . It is part of the Yorkshire and the Humber region . The total area of 2029 km². On the territory of West Yorkshire 34 sites of special scientific importance were allocated: 23 of them are of special biological interest, 9 - geological interest, 2 - both at the same time [1] .
Sites of special scientific importance are called upon to preserve the wildlife and geological heritage of the state. In total, there are more than 4000 UONZs in England, covering about 8% of the country's territory. All sites are subject to the Law. is responsible for assigning the status of a site of special scientific importance , whose experts evaluate whether this area is of particular interest due to its fauna , flora , geological, physical-geographical or geomorphological features. Natural England was established on October 1, 2006 as a result of the merger of three organizations - , and ; she received all their powers, in particular on assigning status to territories of special scientific significance [2] [3] [4] .
